(Happy St David’s Day)!
Please don’t ask me to pronounce anything in Welsh. According to the Yorkshire Post: Those who aren’t well-versed in the language will be wondering how that is pronounced, which is: “Deethe goo-eel Dew-ee happ-iss”.
If you are related to Renee via her father, Willard Love, then you have Welsh ancestry! his mother, Sarah Elizabeth “Sadie” Davis, was of 100% Welsh ancestry. You also have Welsh ancestry if you are related to Don via the Cue’s. Edward Morgan, 1660-1736, was Don’s 8th great-grandfather.
St David’s Day is a feast day celebrating the patron saint of Wales. St David died on the 1st of March in 589 AD and was canonized by Pope Callixtus II in the 12th Century. I highly encourage you to attend the St David’s Day parade with our Welsh cousins in Columbus Junction, Iowa or to attend the Iowa Welsh Society Banquet.
According to tradition, we need to break out our finest clothes that feature daffodils and leeks. (Leeks?) For your feast, prepare Welsh rarebit and cawl (a stew that includes leeks).
