Sometimes I run across the most delightful articles in the local historical newspapers. As I was researching my maternal great-grandmother, Sarah (Widmer) Wenger (1883-1959), I found her recipe for Swiss Cheese!
Sarah was my mother’s Grandma Wenger. She was married to Jacob T Wenger (1865-1949). At the time this recipe was published, Sarah and Jacob T were living in a home just south of Washington, Iowa. So, who has 100 pounds (about 12 gallons) of clean, fresh, and sweet milk and a very big saucepan to recreate this recipe?

“Mrs. Wenger Describes Making of Swiss Cheese,” Washington Democrat, published in Washington, Iowa, 5 May 1932, page 2.
